Russian authorities have detained a suspect in the shooting of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, a senior military intelligence officer, in Moscow. The suspect, Lyubomir Korba, was apprehended in Dubai and handed over to Russian authorities. Korba is alleged to have been working on behalf of Ukraine, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The shooting occurred at an apartment building in northwestern Moscow, following a series of assassinations of senior military officers that Russia has attributed to Ukraine. The attack took place just a day after Russian, Ukrainian, and U.S. negotiators concluded two days of talks in Abu Dhabi, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Alekseyev, 64, has been the first deputy head of Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU, since 2011. He was decorated with the Hero of Russia medal for his role in Moscow's military campaign in Syria. The shooting has been described as a 'terrorist act' by Ukraine, intended to disrupt peace talks. There was no immediate response from Kyiv to the Russian allegations. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement agencies pursuing the case.
