Major Peak District road to be closed for 'days' due to gas leak emergency
A critical situation has emerged on the A6 Haddon Road in Derbyshire, with emergency repairs to a gas pipe necessitating a road closure that will last for several days. The closure affects the road between its junctions with the B5056 and Intake Lane, causing significant disruption for drivers.
Cadent, the gas infrastructure firm, has been conducting works on the road, using traffic lights to manage the process. However, due to the severity of the gas leak, a full diversion is now in place. Despite the closure, Cadent assures that there should be no disruption to gas supplies, but the work will involve reinstating the road to a safe driving condition, which will take several days.
A Cadent spokesperson emphasized, 'Everything is under control, with our engineers taking necessary actions to ensure safety and maintain gas flow to local homes. This work is expected to take a number of days, including the time required to reinstate the road to a safe condition. Motorists are advised to follow the signposted diversion route and allow extra time for their journeys.'
The spokesperson also acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the closure, stating, 'We understand the impact on this busy road and the disruption our work will cause. This is essential work to address a safety-critical repair on the gas network, and we appreciate everyone's patience and understanding during this time.'
Access to and from Haddon Hall will be maintained via the B5056 end of the closure, providing a limited alternative route for those in the area.
