From Instagram Darlings to a Delicious Destination: Ard Sydney Opens Its Doors!
Turning a beloved, Instagram-based cake business into a full-fledged bakery is a dream many entrepreneurs share. Christiana from Ard Sydney, known for her stunning, plant-based creations, has done just that! You might already be familiar with her decadent cakes from your Instagram feed – those Pinterest-worthy posts you've probably saved for inspiration. Now, getting your hands on these treats is easier than ever.
Christiana shared with Urban List that the journey to a permanent space was a natural progression. After years of baking at home and selling at markets, she realized she wanted a place of her own. And what a place it is!
Ard Sydney has found its home in a former industrial battery shop in Petersham. The heart of the bakery is an open-plan kitchen, with inviting outdoor seating. This setup perfectly reflects Christiana's baking philosophy: warm, unpretentious, and deeply personal. She emphasizes that the space is designed around the kitchen, fostering a strong connection between the bakers and the customers. The focus isn't on mass production, but on creating a space where people can slow down, savor something sweet, and escape the daily rush.
This intentional approach extends to the baking itself. Many of Christiana's techniques come from her mother, who now works alongside her. This creates a welcoming, family-kitchen vibe rather than a typical storefront. Christiana hopes that the aroma alone will comfort visitors and encourage them to linger, chat, and enjoy the space.
But here's where it gets controversial... What to order? Christiana herself finds it difficult to choose, but she highlights the baklava layer cake as a standout, where she can really let her creativity shine. Other must-tries include the pistachio olive oil cake and the funfetti cake, affectionately nicknamed the "gayke." Beyond the cakes, expect playful takes on classic buns and a thoughtfully curated drinks menu. Her personal recommendation? The salted tahini caramel cold brew. Matcha lovers, rejoice! Iced maple or plum and pistachio matcha are also among the highlights.
At its core, Ard is about creating beauty and sharing it with the community. In Christiana's words, it's about "sweet treats, sunlight, conversation, and permitting yourself to slow down, even if it is just for a few minutes."
And this is the part most people miss... Ard Sydney's official opening date is January 28th. Are you excited to visit? What are you most looking forward to trying? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
